POKOTABI / Sumizumi
炭炭
Just steps from Keisei Tateishi Station, the izakaya Sumizumi serves charcoal-grilled skewers like chicken liver, wasabi chicken breast, and wings, along with comforting stews and vegetable skewers paired with beer and drinks.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
A short walk from Keisei Tateishi Station, Sumizumi is a neighborhood izakaya where skewers are grilled over charcoal to order. The menu spans classic yakitori to creative variations, including aromatic chicken liver, heart, and sabiyaki—tender chicken breast accented with fresh wasabi. Alongside chicken cuts such as skin, wings, and gizzards, the grill menu extends to beef loin skewers, tongue skewers, plum-shiso rolls, and cheese wrapped in pork, offering plenty of options to browse before settling on a first round.
Skewers can be ordered individually in 2-stick portions or enjoyed through structured yakitori courses that bundle popular cuts. While waiting for skewers to come off the grill, small bites set a relaxed tone, such as radish-rich beef stew, macaroni salad served as an otoshi appetizer, and chicken skin dressed with ponzu. For a more substantial meal, stuffed green peppers, yakitori rice bowls, and comforting chicken rice porridge (tori zosui) are also available.
The space features both counter seating and tables, feeling just as natural for a solo drink over beer and skewers as for a group sharing a spread of small plates. Table reservations are accepted, and the shop stays open from its 17:00 evening opening until late into the night.
